Anna B Savage shares video for new single ‘The Ghost’

Anna B Savage has unveiled her new single ‘The Ghost’, produced by Mike Lindsay (Lump, Tunng). The accompanying video for the song was directed by Savage, with creative direction by Sophie Hurley-Walker. Check it out below.

Speaking about the song in a press release, Savage said:

Breakups are weird in that sometimes the easiest way to get over someone is to act like they’re dead. This song explores the feeling of being haunted by an old partner who is no longer in your life and desperate to be free of those memories. How easily they bubble up from the physical body or mind: you’re afraid to say your ex’s name in bed, to see them in other people, to smell their perfume. Not knowing what to do with how much you loved them.

Sometimes I record a voice from my dreams right after I wake up. The extended version of this song begins with one of those recordings, recounting a dream I had about an ex-wife many years after we last spoke. The song charts the apparent synergy and soulmate experience of being together, in the everyday and the extraordinary. Notice the same things, experience the same things. It quickly descends into unnoticed, unreal, despair of not feeling seen or heard in a relationship. Desperate to leave this relationship behind and feeling unable to escape. And eventually, even when you’re free of the relationship, you can’t escape the memories and it triggers reminders of that person.

Of the visual, Savage added, “We wanted to explore a narrative where the awkward meets the beautiful, and everything is alternately comforting and immediately strange and uncanny, like the tendrils of an old love that once turned so joyfully sour and scary.”
