Johnny Knoxville, seemingly immortal Jackass star, will do almost anything for laughs, but when it comes to dressing, she’s always played it relatively straight. It’s not a dig: on the contrary, it’s a sign of his commitment to an everyman uniform that defies trends and works with his professionally effortless flair. For over 20 years, Knoxville’s style has been defined by punk classic Americana, a mix of crisp white t-shirts, worn-out work pants and forgettable Chuck Taylors. But upon arrival The Jimmy Kimmel Show This week, the bona fide pop culture icon added a new twist by throwing on a floral shirt and denim jacket in a perfect fall layering move that — unlike her stomach-churning tricks — we highly recommend you try.
Knoxville’s talk show fits the bill because everything he wears has looked undeniably cool for decades: Levi’s trucker jackets, Dickies and high-top Chucks are all first-ballot inductees into the Menswear Hall of Fame. (Combining these forces into a kind of workwear-inspired Voltron is a no-nonsense proposition.) The real secret sauce, however, is the patterned button that not only complements his punches, but breaks up any neutrals. colors – and it comes in a clutch when Mother Nature suddenly decides that summer isn’t over yet.
Best of all, you can get each piece for around 100 bucks – sometimes much less. (The only exception is his t-shirt, which Knoxville appears to have won from WyCo Vintage in Kansas City. All this Jackass money’s got to be good for something!) If there’s one thing we’ll leave to the pros here, it’s the patch on the back of his jacket. For those of us who don’t get punched in the face for a living, a denim trucker with a perfect faded wash is an endorsement in itself.
