Qatar vs Canada – Soccer Match Report – 23 September 2022

First-half goals from Cyle Larin and Jonathan David helped World Cup-bound Canada comfortably beat tournament hosts Qatar 2-0 in a friendly in Vienna on Friday.

Larin opened the scoring in the fourth minute when he headed home Sam Adekugbe’s cross before David added nine minutes later, pouncing on a loose ball after goalkeeper Saad Al Sheeb failed to clear the cross.

Qatar used a deep defensive line and offered little in attack. Abdulaziz Hatemi’s powerful long-range strike was tipped over by Milan Borjan in what was their best effort of the opening half.

Canadian manager John Herdman made a number of changes after the break, including subbing off Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies in search of a third, but they were thwarted by Qatar, who could have claimed a late consolation through Karim Boudiaf.

Canada, who last took part in the World Cup in 1986, play Uruguay in a friendly on Tuesday and Qatar next face Chile.
