Seattle Mariners’ Julio Rodriguez leaves the game with a strained back

OAKLAND, Calif. — Seattle Mariners rookie Julio Rodriguez left Thursday’s game at Oakland with a lower back strain and will undergo an MRI on Friday.

Rodriguez doubled and scored in the first as the Mariners cruised to a 9-5 win. The center fielder slowly walked off the field, the coach was at the end of his shift.

Rodriguez recently missed three games with a lower back problem.

“Regarding,” Mariners manager Scott Servais said. “It’s the same area on the lower back. He’s going to work [Friday] When we get to Kansas City, get an MRI and pictures of it.

Jarred Kelenic moved from left to center and Sam Haggerty entered the game from left.

“When Julio went down, we just picked each other up and grinded it out, came out,” Kelenic said. “That was the biggest thing.”

Rodriguez recently missed three games in Anaheim with a lower back problem. The AL Rookie of the Year leadoff hitter is batting .280 with 27 homers and 73 RBIs in 129 games.

Seattle avoided a three-game sweep against the last-place Athletics with the win.
