The conflict in Ukraine could end in a world war, but it wouldn’t happen if he was in power, says the former US president
The conflict in Ukraine could escalate into World War III, former US President Donald Trump warned on Wednesday after Russian President Vladimir Putin said Moscow would use any means necessary to defend itself against a threat to its territorial integrity.
Writing on his social media platform Truth Social, the former president said the conflict in Ukraine, which began after Russia launched a military offensive in late February. “should never have happened.”
Trump claimed that had he still been in the White House, hostilities would never have broken out between Moscow and Kiev.
“As I’ve been making clear for some time, this could end in World War III,” he added.
On Wednesday, Putin announced a partial military mobilization, which included about 300,000 reservists being called up for active duty. The Russian leader also warned that Moscow “would use any means to protect our people,” nuclear weapons as well, if necessary.
“It’s not a bluff,” Putin insisted, saying Russia would use “all available means” to protect their independence and security.
Biden led US into ‘world war’ – Trump
This is not the first time Trump has sounded the alarm about the consequences of the Ukraine crisis. In June, he criticized his successor, President Joe Biden, for his administration’s handling of the crisis, slamming the government for sending tens of billions of dollars worth of military aid to Kiev, which he said would only add fuel to the conflict.
“And with what’s happening in Ukraine and Russia, we’re in serious danger. You could end up with a world war, how they handle it. It’s crazy what they’re doing,” he said at the time.
