Vintage T-shirts: How the GQ staff styled their favorite grails

As much as we love a crisp white tee, there’s something about vintage tees that make our menswear-obsessed hearts beat a little faster and our fingers twitch a little furiously. Maybe it’s the journey of combing rack after rack at our favorite stores to find that diamond in the rough, or maybe it’s the unique qualities of old t-shirts that accumulate over a lifetime. Faded colors, torn fabrics, cracked graphics? All of these “flaws” only add a unique charm to vintage tea, helping them spin a gripping yarn (heh) that their newer counterparts – even the best of them – can only approximate.

Most people think of vintage T-shirts as pretty casual — like, the perfect Sunday morning grocery fare — but the staff at GQ aren’t most people. So for the latest episode of the GQ Recommends Show, we tapped a handful of colleagues to highlight their favorite vintage tees, where they bought them, and most importantly, how they wear them. It turns out that they are much more versatile than you expect.

Watch the full video below and feel free to read your own story (and photo evidence!) of your dreams coming true. The next time you find yourself super fit, consider ditching those freshly laundered t-shirts that saved you a 5-pack—and then throw on a perfectly faded, totally unique vintage joint that you’ve actually wanted to wear.
